Progressive Relaxation

Learn about the benefits of using progressive relaxation to deepen your guided-imagery hypnosis session.

Another technique that is used involves relaxing each muscle group as you move down the body from the head to the toes.

Once you are seated and have found your most comfortable position, begin noticing your breath.

Focus on your breath. Use it to achieve your alpha state.

Now we will begin the guided-imagery hypnosis progressive relaxation.

There at the top of your head you can notice the muscles. Perhaps they are a certain color.

For our example we are going to use red.

Red muscles signify to us that they are tense while pink muscles signal to us that they are relaxed.

Focus on your scalp.

The top of your head, the area across your forehead, down the back of your head to your neck.

Imagine all of those muscles to be a pale pink color.

If there is any red simply breathe into the red and change it to a pale soft pink color.

Move to the muscles in your face, focus on the muscles over your cheeks, and around your eyes.

Simply relax these muscles and change the color to a pale pink.

To continue you would simply move down your neck, down your arms and to your fingers.

Then continue down your chest, hips, thighs, legs and feet and into your toes.

Take the process from above and simply use it to move fully and completely down your body. Relaxing and releasing any tension or stress as you go. Some people will begin to feel heavy when they do this. Others might feel light ........ like they are floating. Whatever you feel is exactly what is right for you.

If you find that trying to guide yourself through this process is too difficult we can help.

We have a CD entitled Warm Relaxation that guides you through this process.

All you would need to do is sit back and relax.
